UP Board exams 2018: Class 10 Science paper and Class 12 Physics paper cancelled due to paper leak

22 February, 2018: The Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board has cancelled the UP Board class 10 Science paper at the Maharajganj district and the UP Board class 12 Physics paper in Chandauli district due to paper leak. The reports of paper leaks were confirmed yesterday, after which the officials decided to cancel the papers. The Board will reschedule these exams soon. The Class 10 paper was scheduled for February 19, 2018, Tuesday whereas the Class 12 (Intermediate) examination was scheduled for February 15 and February 17.

The police have arrested three people for the Physics Paper I and II leakage so far. The gang was used social media to leaked paper online. Handwritten copies of the question paper, cash and 3 mobile phones were found with the culprits. The three persons have been booked under the various sections of IPC which include sections 420 – cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, 467 – forgery of valuable security, 468 – forgery for the purpose of cheating and 471 – using as genuine a forged document or electronic record. They have also been booked under 4/10 of UP Public Examinations Prevention of Unfair Means Act 1998 and sent to jail.

Police have also arrested a principal of an inter college in Chandauli along with 4 other persons who were found at the principal's residence solving the physics paper on February 17. Police have also recovered Rs. 15.50 lakhs cash, answer sheets, solved question papers and a rifle from the spot. The UPSEB Secretary Neena Srivastava said that they are still investigating the paper leak case in Maharajganj.

More than 10 lakhs students skipped their UP Board exams in the first 4 days due to strict security measures that were taken by the government to prevent cheating. Even after such strict measures, cases of paper leaks like the one happened in Maharajganj and Chandauli couldn’t be stopped. As many as 66.37 lakhs students had registered for the board exams in Uttar Pradesh this year which includes both class 10th and class 12th students. Of the total number of students, 29, 81,387 students are appearing for the class 12 exam while 36, 55,691 are appearing for the class 10 exams.

On February 9, 2018, seal of the envelope for English question paper was found to be broken and a case was registered. Also, the exam paper for the UP Board Inter exams scheduled on 12th February was leaked a day before, on 11th February. UP CM, Yogi Adityanath said that emphasis should be on the need to make examinations simpler.
