GPS Device to Help Track WB Exams Papers and Prevent Leaks
1 March, 2018: In what is being a considered a first-ever move, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has announced the use of GPS strips or digitally-intelligent stickers to seal question paper packs and prevent leakage. The sticker, due to the use of GPS strips, will alert examination officials if the envelope with question papers is cut open.
Kalyanmoy Ganguly, administrator, West Bengal Board of Secondary Education said, "For every packet a particular board member will be authorised to carry it from the sorting point at the venue to the exam hall and open the seal. The arrangement in the system is such that the board will get an alert immediately if there is any foul play between the sorting point and the hall."
The decision to equip question paper envelopes with GPS stickers was taken ahead of the board exams, at a meeting of board officials, police, and state education department officials. This move is an attempt to drastically reduce the number of cases of exam paper leak that the board has been plagued by over the years.
