The Lakshmibai National Institute / University of Physical Education (LNIPE) was established at Gwalior in August 1957 as an affiliated institute of Vikram University and later with the Jiwaji University. In the year 1995, the UGC awarded the status of a Deemed University to LNIPE in recognition of its educational services in the field of Physical Education. The University is under direct supervision of the Ministry for Youth Affairs and Sports and is fully funded by the Ministry.
